If my school offers full-day kindergarten, can I choose to send my child part-time?
The most wonderful time of the year is quickly approaching and many of our existing parents have some concerns about their child’s kindergarten options. Some common questions we get asked are: how will full-day kindergarten affect their child and is it possible to attend both kindergarten and The Learning Space without getting burnt out.
First, if your child will be attending full-day kindergarten this September, you can choose to remove your child for part of the day if that is what works best for your family. Full-day kindergarten is NOT mandatory. Quoted from the Ontario Ministry of Education Website “At the schools where full-day kindergarten is offered, parents can choose to remove their child for part of the day if that is what works best for them.” Your child is however, required to attend school full time once he / she turns six years old.
If splitting your child’s day between kindergarten and The Learning Space is not appealing to you, we have some suitable programs for your circumstances. In addition to our Smarty Pants Preschool Program, we now offer The Smarty Pints Kindergarten Program which is offered after school hours. The newly prepared program, is a spinoff from Smarty Pants, is tailored to your child’s needs and includes pint sized times, pint sized groups, as well as customized learning plans. The Smarty Pints Program is designed to compliment Ontario’s current play-based learning children receive at kindergarten by offering individualized learning to support your child’s reading, writing, and math in a pint sized dosage that’s just right!
