Other FAQs

What age should my child be to enroll in The Learning Space?
The Smarty Pints Kindergarten Program enrols children in both JK and SK and works with children as early as the age of 3.  We ask that your child is potty trained at a very minimum.
My child plays all day in kindergarten and I’m worried about him falling behind before he starts grade one.
We support the Ontario educational system and it’s current curriculum. Contact us to see how we can help supplement his learning with our programs.
What age should a child be able to read?
The Ontario curriculum specifies that a child should be reading and writing simple sentences by the time he / she enters grade one. The Learning Space has taught a number of children to learn to read as early as age three through our proper support system and environment. Please note that each child progresses at a different pace.
What type of time commitments are required with The Learning Space’s programs?
We require a commitment from both the parents and students to attend their scheduled classes regularly and make up any missed classes within a month. The students must be committed to working hard and willing to put forth an effort in order to see results.
Who will my child be sitting with at the table during his class?
Aside from the teacher, we try to keep similar aged children together.  In this program there is a maximum group of 2 children to 1 teacher.  Group tutoring allows students to interact and participate in discussions to elaborate their learning and also use each other to motivate one another.  Peer learning is an effective strategy to help students learn and retain information.
How are your teachers different and what are their responsibilities?
The Learning Space’s qualified and caring teachers are trained to work specifically with our methodology of cognitive based teaching. Our teachers create independent thinkers and learners so the child may reach a level where they no longer need support.
